International Jazz Day Alicante Website
Project Overview
I designed and developed a website for International Jazz Day Alicante, commissioned by A.C. Liz Vallet, a local association dedicated to uniting jazz enthusiasts and promoting sustainability in Alicante. Continuing the legacy of founder Liz Vallet through her daughter, the association needed a centralised platform to replace fragmented social media communication and improve access to event details (ticketing, timing, and artist info). As the solo designer, I handled research, UX/UI design, and development over a three-month period using Adobe XD and WordPress. Despite a low budget and multiple stakeholders, I delivered a user-friendly, sustainable site that addressed user needs and strengthened the event’s brand.
Design Process
Using a design thinking methodology, I followed a user-centred approach to meet the needs of the association and its diverse audience:
Empathise: Conducted interviews with stakeholders and researched audience needs, identifying pain points like difficulty accessing event details and inconsistent branding.
Define: Developed two personas to guide design decisions:
Joan Fuster, a 48-year-old university music professor in Spain, seeks quality teaching resources and interactive tools to engage students with jazz heritage.
Design Highlights
Unified Branding: Created a jazz-inspired visual identity with vibrant colours and typography, reflecting Alicante’s culture and the association’s sustainability values.
User-Centric Design: Built intuitive navigation for easy access to event details, catering to Joan’s need for educational content and Emma’s desire for simple event discovery.
Mobile Responsiveness: Ensured seamless access on mobile devices.
Sustainability: Used eco-friendly hosting and a minimalistic design to align with the association’s ethos.
Emma Lee, a 28-year-old marketing professional in Spain, wants beginner-friendly guides and easy access to local jazz events.
Outcomes
The website centralised event information, leading to higher turnout at International Jazz Day Alicante, as reported by A.C. Liz Vallet. Attendees found ticketing, timing, and artist details more accessible, and the association praised the enhanced engagement and cohesive branding. The site continues to support the event’s mission and Liz Vallet’s legacy.
